Stornoway is the main town of the Outer Hebrides and has some wonderful resources, as well as all the amenities that you need including plenty of shops, supermarkets, cafés, restaurants and pubs.

The campus itself has a number of spaces which look out on our beautiful surroundings where students can get together and socialise.  There is a large refectory open daily from 10.00am to 2.00pm where you can sit in and have a main meal or treat yourself to some of our delicious freshly made home baking.

The Lewis Sports Centre and swimming pool is an example of how the island’s resources are shared out and this sports complex is used by schools and the public. It caters for all ages and includes a fitness centre, squash courts, games hall, climbing wall, health suite, swimming pool, track, astro turf and café.  Details of all the local sports centres are here.

The Stornoway Golf Course is a great 18-hole golf course with an excellent club house.

The magnificent beaches, mountains and moorland are crying out to be explored and as a result there is an active sports scene, so whether kayaking, walking, cycling, football, sea angling or sailing is your passion, there is sure to be a club to suit. More info here. Just ask staff at the Bayhead Bridge Centre for further information and they will point you in the right direction. Additionally, the Highlands & Islands Students' Association organises a whole host of sporting competitions and events.

We also have a vibrant arts scene and the local arts centre, An Lanntair, is testament to the creative spirit of the islands. Here you can enjoy food, a cinema, exhibitions, live music and events, shopping and creative workshops all under one roof. Open daily, it’s a great place to meet your friends, soak up some culture and catch the latest film.

Don’t forget Stornoway is also home to the legendary, award-winning annual HebCelt Festival which always pulls in the crowds and some big names. Be sure to mark it in your diary.

If you're studying in Barra, you'll have access to all the facilities that you need.
Surrounded by stunning beaches, open skies, hills and moorland, you can definitely embrace the great outdoors.  There’s plenty to try, from sea kayaking, power kiting, landboarding to golf.

The island itself is rich in history with settlements dating back to the Iron Age, so if archaeology is your thing then there is plenty to explore.

So you have come to study on Uist. What is there to do? There are a wealth of activities and places to visit to make your time studying in Benbecula a memorable one for life.

From Berneray in the north, to Eriskay in the south, this chain of islands are all connected by causeways making travel around the islands easy. Benbecula lies between the islands of North Uist and South Uist and the main town of Balivavinch is situated on the west side of the island. Here you will find the airport, bank, post office, hospital, police and fire station as well as shops, restaurant, Chinese takeaway and pub. The Benbecula Campus is situated in the township of Lionacleit, a short distance from Balivanich. Here you will find the secondary school, which also acts as a community centre. There are a range of fantastic facilities at your disposal, including a swimming pool, sauna, sports hall, fitness suite, grass and all weather football surfaces at Sgoil Lionacleit community sports centre (right next door to our campus!) Based on the island of North Uist, our campus provides an opportunity to study Fine Art in the distinctive environment of the Outer Hebrides, on the west coast of Scotland.

Renowned for their beauty, unique habitats, unusual geomorphology and spectacular coastlines, these islands comprise a rich and diverse natural environment. Home to a wide range of native flora and fauna, they also play host to a large variety of migrating birds throughout the year.Human occupation of the islands dates back thousands of years and archaeological evidence of this is apparent throughout. The traditional island lifestyle of Crofting flourishes, (small hold farming), as does the Gaelic language and culture of traditional music, making this a unique and stimulating place in which to study.
